Mobilising Sense of Place for Degrowth? Lessons From Lancashire's Anti-fracking Activism

This article foregrounds sense of place as a key concept to further advance spatial theorisations within both ecological economics and degrowth. We delineate the scope apply it fracking controversy in Lancashire, UK. Specifically, we elucidate how associations were mobilised by pro- anti-fracking actors legitimate their respective positions. Our study makes three contributions. First, review an extensive body work humanistic cultural geography, developing integrative analytical framework which can be adopted economics/degrowth scholars. Second, drawing on insights from Lancashire's movement, illustrate became critical for involved degrowth-minded activism. In doing this, our contributes towards narrowing gap between degrowth enactment activism real world complexities. Finally, conclude reflecting ideological implications incorporating global politics, particularly context rising ethnonationalism right-wing populism.
